Hassle Records

Hassle Records is a wonderful Indie label with such acts as The Used, Cancer Bats, Frank Iero etc. and have amazing partnerships for re-issues with Vagrant Records. We worked together on a logo rebrand to better fit the cover of Ithaca’s new record “They Fear Us”.

The Final Logo

We took inspiration from the classic record logos of the 50’s, 60’s and on - such as Fontana, Vertigo, etc. The brief called for something nostalgic but timeless and clean.

The Problem:

Ithaca’s album had a strong vintage 70s vinyl record feel and the current Hassle Logo was clashing way too much with it, due to its hand-drawn newer feel.

Original Logo:

The Solution

I wanted to create a logo system that solved multiple problems and that could be used across the many mediums that a modern record label will be advertising and utilizing a logo in. This included Large scale print for crowded posters at festival lineups all the way down to label business cards. We loved the stylization that the skull with lines gives, as well as the small old style “London U.K.” text gives, but wanted to ensure there were practical logo identities for applications where these details would be lost. I created a full identity that not only worked well for this Ithaca album, but has since been adopted across their website, newsletter, advertisement, physical records and much more.

Final Packaging

Release to critical acclaim by outlets such as Pitchfork, Kerrang! etc - the final logo helped bring a cohesive look to both the record and label.
